Letters From Strangers

Letters from Strangers is an exchange of words, a social experiment, and community art project aiming to connect human beings from around the world. You send me an anonymous letter written to a stranger and a self addressed envelope. I repackage your letter and send it off to another stranger. Then I send a random letter from a stranger to you.

I ask that you please read the following text before sending your letter:

I do not store your name or address, and no one will see them but you, me, and the postal service. The goal is complete anonymity.

Now you have the chance to say (almost) anything you want to a complete stranger. Someone who is looking forward to reading what you have to say. Feel free to sketch or paint on the letter, include crafts, write a story, philosophize, ramble, wax poetic, or just let your creativity flow. I will not send out spam, or mail that I deem offensive or that gives away your identity.

On every Sunday I will post scans of my favorite letters before I send them out. This means that by submitting a letter, you are giving me permission to publish the content, though I will not claim it as my own work. If you do not wish for your work to be published, please include a note saying so on a separate piece of paper.

Please do not reveal either your name, your phone number, or your address in your letter.  Keep in mind that you are writing to a complete stranger, and that I may possibly post your letter in this blog for everyone to see.

There is currently no limit to the number of letters you can send me.

If you live in the US, you must include postage on your self addressed envelope in order for me to mail a letter back to you. The current postage price for a letter is 44 cents. I wish I could afford to front the bill for everyone myself, but I am only a college student.

If you live outside the US, I will cover postage for you, but I ask that you please make a small donation using PayPal. I will send you a letter even if you don't donate, but it would really help me out, and I'll be able to mail a letter to you faster if I have the funds to do so.
