10 days ago, I graduated from college. Although letters will be forwarded to my home address for a short time, I will need to purchase a PO box in order to continue the project without sacrificing my safety and privacy. Jobs have been scarce in Maine lately, and despite many attempts at getting a job, I am currently unemployed.
If you would like to help me continue the project, I am humbly asking for donations. Every little bit can help.
Rates range from $23.00 for a 3 x 5.5 inch box for 3 months, but my goal is to be able to afford a 5 x 5.5 inch box for at least 6 months, which would be $58.00. If I exceed that value in donations, I will either select a larger PO box, or it will go toward funding Letters From Strangers in the future.
I dream of one day being able to sell and give away LFS stickers, notebooks, and t-shirts. How cool would that be?
Anyway, if you would like to lend a hand, there is a Pay Pal donation button on the bottom right hand side of the blog, and I can accept checks by mail.
If you're a broke college graduate like I am, you can still help to support LFS by sending in your letters, and through sites like Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Stumble Upon, and through word of mouth.
I will be sure to keep you guys posted on donation progress! Thank you all for being a part of Letters From Strangers.
Katie

I guess i don't really understand this site. Let me see if i have this right. I send you a letter , you send it on to someone for me, then you send me a letter from a stranger.....i read this letter but if i want to respond to this person i cannot ...right??Also the person who received my letter cannot respond to me...right......so...why do it??? I could see it if maybe you were trying to connect penpals or something?? Maybe i have it wrong and you just need to explain it better for me??
ReplyDeleteThere are already pen pal services out there, and I wanted to start a project that didn't already exist. Furthermore, my experience with pen pals (even when I have paid for the service) has been that there will be an initial letter, but no further contact, which is disappointing and feels like a waste of time. Other times, I have received scams or even marriage proposals.
ReplyDeleteThink of it this way:
You have the opportunity to say anything you want to a complete stranger, anonymously. Maybe there is a story, or a secret you want to share. Maybe you just want to brighten someone's day. Maybe you just want someone to read your writing, or see your drawings, etc.
Letters are direct and personal, when in this age of information and technology, we are becoming more and more detached from the people around us. It's just a little way to reach out to someone you don't know, and maybe make a difference in their life.
Glad to hear you're restarting as I only caught the tail end of this project last time! Maybe one day I'll get round to writing a letter to a stranger as I think it's a lovely idea! Just out of interest how many letters do you get say in a week? Also I've tagged you in my Liebster Award blog post :)

That's great. Thanks for tagging me! :)
ReplyDeleteIt really depends on the week. Sometimes I get no letters for months at a time, and then I'll have days where I'll get 10 or so in the mail.
Lately, things have been very slow.
