You send me an anonymous letter written to a stranger and a stamped self-addressed envelope. I repackage your letter and send it off to another stranger. Then I send a random letter from a stranger to you.
Please do not reveal your name or contact information in your letter. I do not store your name or address, and no one will see them but you, me, and the postal service. The goal is complete anonymity.
Feel free to sketch or paint, include crafts, write a story, philosophize, ramble, wax poetic, or just let your creativity flow.

ReplyDeleteI'm wanting to send in a letter from New Zealand, how do I do the postage thing? Obviously a New Zealand stamp isn't going to be much good, so should I just make donation for postage on the site?

ReplyDeleteI fell in love with your project as soon as I heard about it! It's such a beautiful idea! The only problem is that I'm from Poland and I'm not sure what should I include in my envelope. Will normal stamp be enough?

ReplyDeletePlease send the envelope with your address, and donate at least $1.27 to Letters From Strangers so I can buy an American stamp to send it back to you. :) (This is the cost of an international stamp as of January 26th, 2014, plus 12 cents for Paypal processing costs.)
If you're not able to donate I will try to use stamps donated by other people if I have extra, but I am unfortunately going through some financial hardships, and I can't afford to pay the postage myself at this time, although I would love to if I could.

This is an amazing idea, but is it safe for younger people? I ask because myself and friends want to try doing this as a group, but we don't want our adress known

ReplyDeleteI swap the letters myself, so I'm the only one who sees your address, and I don't store or use any of that information. It's a one-time letter swap thing rather than an ongoing pen-pal relationship, and part of the reason why I chose to do that is to keep people safe. I signed up for a pen pal list once, and got a pretty disturbing letter.
Anyway, it would be awesome if you contributed! :)
